ANTI-RACISM POLICY

MuseMovement (“MuseMovement,” “we,” “our,” “us,” “the studio,” “studio”) strives to be an accessible space that welcomes all bodies and lived experiences; and where everyone feels a sense of care, community and belonging. We are committed to building a studio that refutes systems of violence and oppression. This Anti-Racism Policy (“policy”) outlines the responsibilities and procedures associated with our commitment to anti-racism. This Policy must be read in conjunction with our Health & Safety Policy, Code of Conduct, and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy.

Racism encompasses the systems, behaviours, assumptions, and beliefs that exploit, marginalize, and harm Black, Indigenous, and people of colour, whether intentionally or unintentionally. White supremacy is the system behind racism. Racism is fundamentally dependent on an imbalance of power and privilege, and is interconnected with other forms of oppression (i.e., cissexism, homophobia, ableism). Therefore, the struggle against racism must be integrated with the struggles against other forms of oppression.

Racism, including slurs, micro-aggressions, suspicion, harassment, discrimination, and/or otherwise offensive and oppressive behaviour, is unacceptable and incompatible with the standards of the studio, as well as being a violation of the law. The Ontario Human Rights Code prohibits the discrimination of people on the basis of race as a protected ground. It states that every person in Ontario has a right to be free from racial discrimination and harassment in the social areas of accessing services and/or employment.

We will take reasonable action in responding to racism through anti-racist, trauma informed, and community-centred approaches. As MuseMovement staff, teacher trainees, clients, and/ or attendees of any studio events, you agree to uphold a standard of behaviour in accordance with this policy.
